By Jenna Litchfield A job description is a very handy piece of paperwork to have, it helps when companies are recruiting new people for positions, when companies are evaluating current positions also when they are disciplining and terminating employees and conducting performance reviews on employees so as you can see they are very valuable and a great asset to any company.
When companies are recruiting people they often let candidates review the job description and see if it is to there liking and if not the candidates move on.
With current employees job descriptions are used to evaluate the employees performance, an employees performance should match those duties and responsibilities on the job description and if not the employee can be terminated or disciplined.
The job description is an example of what the employee's behavior should be.
In a job description like the free examples below there will be the positions title, for example: Account Manager or the like, also it will contain all there their responsibilities, obligations, tasks, duties and basic requirements and qualifications for the job.
Of course all these will be in detail so the employee will know exactly where they stand and what they should be doing as in the free samples/examples below.
Please remember though that a job description is a legal document and any sample or example of offensive material or written reference to color or race, religion, age or sex etc is illegal.
So to avoid court cases and being sued please adhere to the above free sample/example of advice.
Also employees remember to evaluate the job description annually or quarterly, for changes and or issues that need to be addressed and or written into the job description.
A good free sample layout of a example job description is as follows:
Position title:
E.G. Account Manager, Sales Department
Reports to: General Manager and Branch Manager
Based: This is where your position will be based.
Summary of position:
This is the main purpose of the position.
Consults with:
These are the people the employee will be expected to have daily contact with.
Tasks/ Duties the Employee is responsible for:
The tasks and duties are exactly what the person will be expected to do.
Explain them in the job description like the free samples below but not too in depth, write enough to have a good description and sample of the functions and activities that will be performed.
List the tasks or duties from most important to least and emphasize responsibilities and results that are expected from the duties and the tools to be used to achieve those results.
Term of employment:
This is how long the person will be employed for at the company.
Qualifications:
Write here the skills and attributes the person will need to perform each task to a satisfactory level.
Conditions:
Explain any travel requirements, working hours, salary, benefits, and Leave entitlements.
Any physical demands of the job must be written if necessary as well.

Free sample Job Description - Receptionist
Title: Receptionist
Reports to: Branch Manager
Based at: Malcom Recruitment, 234 Selwin lane, New Worksvile
Summary of position: To handle all incoming calls, customer service and client management and the day to day aspects or reception and office work.
Tasks and duties:
Maintain a computerized customer database
Carry out day-to-day office duties, such as banking, data entry and filing.
Respond to customer and clientele enquiries and needs.
General assistance to the branch manager and recruitment agents.
Manage outgoing and incoming calls, including switchboard operation.
Salary and wages:
Wages will be given at ten dollars an hour, with holiday pay included, subject to pay reviews every six months.
Free example Job Description - Lawyer
Title: Lawyer
Team: Child, Family and Young persons division
Department: Legal Services
Reports to: Senior Lawyers
Based at: Norton Law and Co, 234 Broughton house, New Horton
Summary of position: To provide a high quality comprehensive legal service to the city council, that is very much effective and client orientated, while maintaining professionalism with all parties concerned.
Tasks and duties:
To provide practical legal advice and assistance to the council in the Child, Family and Young persons division.
With all aspects of child protection legislation procedures, adoption laws and all relate court protocols and guidance.
Assist in supervising the legal assistants and support staff and team
Undertake casework allocated by the senior lawyers or head of legal services.
To keep up to date with changes and developments in the law and practices fields, and pass on that knowledge to fellow employees, and delivering training to the fellow employees.
To insure the legal service complies with requirements of the council and government.
Salary and wages:
Annual Salary of $83 000 dollars plus holiday pay and superannuation.
